Principal's Message
SJI is a Catholic school founded on the Lasallian core values of Faith, Service and Community. An SJI education aims to educate the WHOLE PERSON in line with these values. We provide an inclusive education that is respectful of our students’ religious beliefs and we embrace all students that meet the entry requirements.
An organisation cannot be regarded as the best that it can be unless each individual person is being the best that he or she can be. That is why SJI is an extraordinary school. While we demand the best from all our students, we also strive to deliver the very best that an education has to offer. At SJI, we help our students to understand what it means to be human and enable them to learn how to learn and learn how to live; empowering them to become leaders who will be men and women of integrity and men and women for others.
The heart and hallmark of a Josephian education lies in real service – borne out of a strong sense of personal commitment and social responsibility. In SJI, our definition of success is measured not just by the achievements of our students and staff. More importantly, it is measured in terms of our various contributions and service to the school and the wider community and in finding purpose, fulfilment and joy in giving back to society. And that is why I’m heartened and proud that Josephians have always risen to the challenge and sought to uphold this tradition by giving of themselves, be it to the school or to the wider community. This indeed is the uniqueness of SJI and it is this mission to be persons for others that differentiates Josephians from the rest.
In a world full of rapid shifts, students gain an edge by thinking creatively and critically, seizing opportunities to grow with confidence and meeting challenges with resilience. An SJI education equips students with hard and soft skills that shape their success.
We provide a balanced and holistic dual track education that will help students from Secondary 1 to Junior College (JC) 2 to excel academically, develop their social, spiritual and emotional competencies, and live a moral, healthy and active life that will lead them to discover and develop their talents and interests, to strive for meaning in their lives, and, most of all, to have the instinct to think of the community first and care for others.
Our Integrated Programme (IP) track is a 6-year programme that integrates 4 years of secondary education with 2 years of JC education without the need for our students to take the GCE O-Level examinations, leading to them sitting for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at the end of JC 2 (Year 6). The Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) Programme track is a 4-year secondary education that leads to the SEC examinations. Our secondary section is an all-boys school while the JC section is co-educational and we welcome girls and boys to join us after their SEC to study the 2-year IBDP for their pre-university education.
At SJI, we offer a challenging and enriching academic programme for our secondary boys to ensure that they are nurtured and developed according to their talents and interests. We offer a 3-tier Levels of Learning curriculum structure that provides a balance between providing a strong academic foundation for them to do well in the national examinations and pursue any course of study or discipline in the future, and also help them to build a strong capacity for inquiry and critical thinking. A Josephian education will provide a strong foundation to prepare our students for meaningful professional careers and, more importantly, lay the foundation for life-long and holistic learning that will prepare them well to meet challenges in the future.
Alongside our academic programmes, SJI offers a comprehensive student development programme that complements our academic programmes. Our Josephian Formation Journey (JFJ) is aimed at developing a moral compass in each student, helping them to become aware of their personal strengths and weaknesses and to appreciate and understand how to live in the community. Physical education, adventure and outdoor education and co-curricular activities complement and strengthen their mental and physical resilience, develop their ability to work in teams and to help them exercise discipline and leadership.
At SJI, we pride ourselves in ensuring that our students will have meaningful learning experiences based on a strong value foundation. They are expected to work hard, to strive always to do their best and to enjoy themselves at the same time. In the process, they develop strong and deep friendships with one another. Thus, they will graduate from SJI with a strong sense of community, and they join our network of many other Josephians who continue their leave their mark locally and internationally.
We are always heartened when parents and students tell us that choosing SJI was one of the best decisions of their lives and that SJI has transformed and helped their children to grow to become young people with a heart for others and that they have found their purpose and passion in life. When you join SJI, you belong to a network of Josephians where many are and were distinguished leaders in both the public and private sectors, who serve the community to make the world a much better place.
Ora et Labora!
